Children work cooperatively in different literacy activities each day. They follow the schedule on the activity board. The literacy centers include:
1. Guided Reading Groups: Children work with the teacher on reading skills. They read books together and focus on tapping out sounds in words, sight word vocabulary, and comprehension.
2. Journal Center: children write a sentence in their journals and illustrate. They check for proper punctuation and capitalization.
3. Computer Center: children work on the computer program, "Waterford."
4. ABC Center: children work on alphabet puzzles, beginning sound puzzles, building word activities, cut and paste phonics worksheets etc...
5. Pocket Chart Center: children work on beginning sound, alphabetical order, sequencing, word building and sentence building
